Match Man shows up annually for our Christmas Tree burning. He comes as a reminder to us that if we are fueled in Christ and expose ourselves to something flamable, God uses us in amazing ways. Come January 4th to see him catch ablaze.

 

Cara Saxton is a student in Trinity Schools. She is athletic and plays dodge ball with the boys. She is full of life and keeps us smiling and laughing. Great to have you with us Cara

 

Heather is a Senior at East Davidson High School. She is courteous, conscientious, and has a strong work ethic. She can take down any guy in the youth group with one hand. She is a servant and cares for others. It's great having you with us Heather

 

Sarah and Katie Portis live in the land of Denton. They are homeschooled and Katie works at CVS. They joined us almost a year ago. Though they don't speak much, their smiles tell 1,000 words of the inward joy they have. Thanks for being joy spots in our group Sarah and Katie

 

Lizzie is a Senior at East Davidson High School. She is on the soccer and tennis team and works a job as well. She had her name before Lizzie McGuire, so she is cooler than Hillary Duff. It's great having you with us Lizzie

 

Alyssa is a homeschooled sophomore this year who will soon be driving. She is sister to Daniel and Kivett Hicks. Her gentle spirit is very inviting. Even though she may not say much with her words, she speaks very clearly and loudly with her kind attitude and actions. It's a blessing having you with us Alyssa

 

Rachel is a Jr. at East Davidson High School. She is involved with the soccer team and works at Ingle's (an american owned store). She has had two older sister's come through Mt. Zion's youth group, but she is by fall the cooler of the other two. Rachel hopes to go into the medical field someday. For the time being, she is going to continue to get into shaving cream wars at the maXX. Great having you with us Rachel

 

Taylor is a 7th grader at Brown Middle School this year. He is full of energy and a very active athlete. He loves playing sockem at Jr High maXX. Great to have you with us Taylor

 

Meet Courtney Lakin. She is daughter to Alan and Debbie Lakin and sister to Stephanie and Cody....all who recently survived being stuck in Cancun, Mexico while hurricane Wilma was on the rampage. Courtney is in the 7th grade and is homeschooled. Hopefully she was able to recieve extra credit in science for her recent field trip to the eye of the hurricane. We're glad you are all safe and back in one piece

 

He is the spokesperson for John Deere Inc. to the maXX student youth group. Daniel is brother to Kivett and Alyssa, but not to be confused with the early K.J. Hicks. Daniel is in his senior year in homeschool. He does not normally wear his collar this way even though it is quite fashionable. He is very courteous, conscientious, and has a very humble heart. He plays and he coaches. Soccer is his game. He used to be part of the undefeated Red Strikers team until he aged out. Jeremy Young is a Freshman at Trinity High School. Jeremy's heart is soft and his hands are ready to work. He's a hard worker and an all around nice guy. It's great to have you with us Jeremy

 

Kris10, minnie kaity, pop tart, lego, little soccer punk. She has more nicknames than Austin Bingham has "your mamma" jokes. Kristen Longo is a Freshman at East Davidson High School this year. She will be following in her sister's (Kaity) footsteps and joining the soccer team this year. Kristen is full of energy and funloving. You can't help but leave on a maXX night and not be friends with her. Great to have you with us Kristen

 

He's always smiling. Zack Addis always has a fun spirit about him. His presence lifts you up. Zack is a Senior at East Davidson this year and is playing soccer this Fall. Great to heave you with us Zack

 

Don't be intimidated of this gentle giant. He's a gentleman. But, put him in an East Davidson football game and he'll rip your head off...in a spiritual, loving way of course. Tyler Smith is a wonderful addition to our maXX family. Going into his Jr. year, he has 2 more years with us! Great to have you with us Tyler

 

Hoopty has been a trusty friend and companion to us. Many students prefer Hoopty over the other gray van even though the sliding door doesn't shut right all the time and he doesn't always smell the best. Some students prefer hoopty more because of the nice bench seats he provides. They are easier for stuffing more luggage in and for taking naps on long trips. Hoopty, thanks for everywhere you take us safely

 

Stacey has been a faithful sponsor to the youth group for a while now. She has two teens currently in the ministry (Brittany and Blaine) and one on the way next year (Bailey). Stacey works for Alcohol and Drugs Services of High Point. The picture you see isn't a prevention activity. That's actually what Stacey does in her spare time to stay sane and maintain good hygeine (or what we did in an activity in youth one night and Stacey was a good sport about participating). You are appreciated Stacey

 

Meghan Ferdinand comes to us from the land of Texas. We were able to get her back late last year for good. Meghan is a rising 8th grader at Brown Middle School this year. She is big on chiuauas and loves McDonald's. She can sing the McDonald's theme song for you many times if you would like. It's great having you with us Meghan

 

Krystal Hodges is an honorary summer maXXer hailing from Elizabeth City, NC. She is the cousin of Rachel Dyer and makes her way down here every summer. We always enjoy having you Krystal.

 

Kevin Dunlap is a rising 9th grader at Hayworth Christian School. Not to be confused with his identical twin Daniel Dunlap. Kevin will be attending Sr. High camp with us this summer as will his twin Kevin. Great to have you with us Kevin

 

Jeanene Fitzgerald hails from Lexington. She works at East Davidson and does much for the maXX. Her most recent project is the silent auction in August to raise money for the Logos5 convention.

While being known to provide donuts on many occasions, her sweet servant like heart will become apparent to you in a matter of seconds. Great to have you on board Jeanene

Caroline Fowler is a rising 7th grader at Brown Middle School. She is an honorary Jedi Master with a pink lightsaber. When she hits you with her lightsaber it brightens your day. What's so neat is that she can use the Jedi force to make you smile with her nice attitude even without using her lightsaber. Lightsaber or not, hanging around Caroline will brighten your day. Chad Ferguson is a rising Sophomore at East Davidson. He is a multi-sport athlete and has a mean swing. He is known for catching the most fish at our camping trip last year. Great to have you with us Chad

 

Kaira Alcazar is a rising Freshmen East Davidson student. She is sister to Fonzie and Jesus Alcazar. She plays in band and is tough enough to beat up boys. Kaira is a lot of fun to be with as her funloving attitude will lift your spirits. Great to have you with us Kaira

 

Bradley Cline is a Sophomore at East Davidson High School. Bradley is a helper to the youth group by setting up before rallies during the off season of golf. This past year he placed 4th in individual rankings in the state 2A High School finals. Congratulations Bradley! Great to have you with us

 

Cody Lakin is a student at his own home. Therefore, he is a homeschooler. Since being a homeschooler he has excelled in the subject of Super Smash Bros on Game Cube and has been able to read all of the Lord of the Rings books as well as watch the movies. And of course he is excited about Episode III coming out next week. Cody is brother to Stephanie and Courtney who have been there to help him in his Game Cube achievements. Brooke is a student at ATMS in Trinity. She is also a member of the Red Strikers Soccer team in the Guil-Rand league. In the past she has been a part of our student worship team. Brooke has a great spirit about her. Her good attitude is contagious and her smile will lift you up. Great to have you with us Brooke

 

He's a wrestler, a track runner, a hunter, and now he's learning the guitar. He is Blaine Inman. Blaine is a Freshman at East Davidson High School. He is brother to Brittany and son to youth sponsor Stacey. Unlike his sister and mom, he is a Carolina fan. Great to have you with us Blaine

 

Kivett Hicks is a Senior at a "Hicks" School. No really...he's homeschooled and his last name is Hicks, therefore, his school is a "Hicks" school. Kivett and his family just started hanging out with us this past January. Kivett is a talented and is part of our worship band. He enjoys working with his hands and is quite the handy man. He hopes to attend Piedmont College this fall to begin his study in the ministry. Great to have you with us Kivett

 

Kaity Longo is a senior this year at East Davidson High School. Upon graduation she plans to attend Appalachian in the fall.

She is sister to Kristen (a.k.a. mini-Kaity) and plays soccer for East. We wish you the best in life upon graduation Kaity! Great to have you with us

 

Being neither a tree or a turkey, he is Forrest Gobble. He is finishing up high school this year and working at Chair City Car Wash at the same time. He has a hard work ethic and incredible potential to be a great leader. We wish the best for you upon graduation Forrest

 

It's not Charlie. It's not Charles. It's Chaz. He likes Baseball. He likes Tennis. He likes Football. He likes Basketball. He is the sports man. He likes lolly sticks too.

Chaz is a Junior at East Davidson High School this year. He hopes to make a career out of sports someday whether it is through broadcasting or recording stats. Either way, ESPN would look even better with him on board.

Joe Fitzgerald is currently working for Krispy Kreme. He usually drives out to a city far away on Monday and comes home on Friday each week. We are glad to get to see him on weekends. He is father to Zane and husband to Jeanene from the maXX. He is a tremendous help and has a huge heart. It's great to have you on the team Joe

 

Brittany Inman is a sophomore at East Davidson High School. She is sister to Bailey and Blaine and daughter to our youth sponsor Stacey. Brittany is a scholar athlete of Volleyball, Basketball, and Softball even though she has the strength to be on the wrestling team. Her favortie color is definitely Duke blue. Don't be afraid of the cheeto teeth. She doesn't bite. Great to have you with us Brittany

Jim Burchel is a local graduate of Thomasville High School, undergrad at John Wesley and Bethany Bible College, and also graduate of Asbury Seminary. He has been involved in youth ministry for several years and currently serves at Wise Guys Education. Jim is father to Ashley, Jacob, and Abbi and faithful sponsor to many others at the maXX student ministries. Great to have you on the team Jim

 

Alecia Nelson is a sophomore at East Davidson High School this year. She is brother to Devin and sister to many athletes from our youth group in the sports of soccer, volleyball, and basketball.

She is not a rapper, even though she can dress well like one. Great to have you with us Alecia

 

Justin Wall is a Junior at East Davidson High School this year. He is brother to the famous Chelsey Wall.

You may ask why you may not see him much at youth. Besides working his part time job and going to school, Justin is also a professional athlete in the National XBall League. He plays XBall (or paintball) for the Baltimore Trauma. Justin travels all over the country and parts of the world to compete in paintball. Abbi Lord is a Junior at Thomasville High School where she cheers for the 3 time North Carolina State Champion girls basketball team. Abbi is sister to Jacob and Ashley

Don't tell her she can't do something because she will prove you wrong. Her determination will take her far in life as she continues to excel in many areas of her life. Great to have you with us Abbi

 

Jesus Alcazar is a Senior at East Davidson High School. He is currently co-leading his wrestling team as a co-captain. He plans to look into an ROTC program at a college after high school with further plans to look into the armed forces. He is brother to Fonzie, Juan, and Kaira as well as the rest of the youth group. His last burning caused a Christmas tree to burst 20 feet flames.

 

Meredith Carroll is a sophomore at East Davidson High School. She is a student athlete participating in volleyball, basketball, and soccer. She enjoys eating the heads off of animal crackers, but does not like to have her feet tickled. She also likes buffalo wings and Mt. Dew.

Ashley Burchel is currently a student at Thomasville Middle School. Ashley is one of 3 siblings. She enjoys Basketball, Track, reading, spending time with her family and friends, and hanging out at church.

Ashely would love to be a C.S.I. and a teacher in Africa after college. She comments, "I hope that you all know God is the best that will ever happen to you." Great to have you with us Ashley

 

Jake Conner is in 8th grade at Brown Middle School. You can't help but have a great time after hanging around Jake for a few minutes. His humor can turn a frown upside down.

Jake enjoys playing football and spending time with family. He is praying about God's calling on his life. He thinks he may want to be a youth pastor some day.

He also loves to play bluegrass music with the guitar and bass. He also enjoys singing and listening to country music and spending time with his friends and family. Great to have you with us Jake

 

Alan Au is a sophomore at East Davidson High School

Sticking Qtips up his nose isn't his favorite past time, but he did really well at a qtip cram competition at youth group one Wednesday night. Alan enjoys soccer as he plays for East Davidson

Adam Grey is a senior at East Davidson High School. He is a brother to 3 other manly type creatures of the Grey household.

If you know Adam, you know that he loves to have a great time. His humor keeps people laughing. Adam enjoys soccer and wrestling and hopes to join the armed forces after his plans of joining an ROTC program in college. Pray for Adam as he opens the upcoming chapters in his life.

If you know Fonzie Alcazar, you know that he is a college student, a youth sponsor, a wrestling and soccer coach, a brother, and a friend.

Fonzie currently attends DCCC (AKA Harvard on the highway) and is an assistant wrestling coach at East Davidson High School. When he grows up he would like to be a wrestling coach full time.

He enjoys spending time with his friends and family and working at Omega Sports. He hopes some day the mullet will come back in style yet again. Fonzie comments, "I'm Mullet man!!!"

Trevor Sheffield is a student at East Davidson High School. He loves to draw, play soccer, skateboard, and act. Trevor also enjoys hanging out with his family, driving his car, playing with his dog, and visiting with the teens at Mt. Zion.

He hopes to be an artist or soccer player someday when he grows up. If you are ever in the hallway near the Intensive Care unit at Thomasville Hospital, look for Trevor's painting. He would like to someday work for Disney drawing for the movies or characters. He also wouldn't mind playing on the major league level for soccer. He comments, "I'm just thankful I get to go to school with a bunch of my friends that I go to church with. it makes being a Christian easier, I think."

Danielle Cloer has been attending Mt Zion Wesleyan Church for some time now. She and her brother Andrew have been very active in the youth ministry. She is involved in the puppet program, Bible bowl, and has attended many of our trips. You can find her at a Mt Zion Youth Activity about every Wednesday and Sunday night as well. Danielle enjoys singing, playing piano, and writing poems. She is homeschooled and hopes to someday study music to be a singer or a music teacher at a Christian college. It's great having you with us Danielle

 

Chelsea Jobe has joined us since last May. She is currently a student at East Davidson High School. She transferred from West Davidson, but was formerly from Pennsylvania. She enjoys soccer, movies, and hanging out with her family. She has an older brother Seth who is currently attending UNCG. She wants to someday work in a profession that will impact people's lives. She has interest in being an actress or singer. Chelsea says about Mt. Zion Youth group, "I love this youth group and getting to know all of you!" It's great to have you with us Chelsea
