Point Out the Heroes of Faith in Your Own Local Church

Honoring Men for Outstanding Service

There are men in your congregation who are spiritual mentors. Can you think of someone right now whose life exemplifies godly character, Christian servanthood, and personal commitment to making a difference for good and for God in your community and world? Such men stand out as models for others to imitate and leaders to follow toward true greatness in the kingdom of God. As the Apostle Paul said, "Honor men like him..." (Philippians 2:29).

As a part of your church's Wesleyan Men Week celebration, your local chapter is encouraged to present a member with the "Outstanding Wesleyan Man of the Year" Award. This award recognizes and honors excellence in the life and ministry of local Wesleyan Men. Here are some suggested steps for selecting and honoring award recipients from your men's group.

  1. Copy and distribute the "Outstanding Wesleyan Man of the Year" nomination form printed below two months before award time. Nominations may be made by any WM member or by members of the executive committe
  2. Collect all nominations for review and final selection by the local WM executive committee or an awards committee appointed specifically for this purpose
  3. Complete an official "Outstanding Wesleyan Man of the Year" award certificate, available free upon request from the General Office of Wesleyan Men. If desired, purchase a plaque or other type of award to present along with the certificate. Inexpensive, attractive, engraved plaques with Wesleyan Church logos are available for purchase from the Wesleyan Publishing House (call toll free 1-800-493-7539).
  4. Ask the pastor to participate in the public recognition of your local chapter's "Outstanding Wesleyan Man of the Year" during a worship service on Father's Day or at a special Wesleyan Men Week event. Invite the honoree's family and friends to attend.

Our Wesleyan Men executive committee needs your input to identify and honor outstanding men in our church for their Christian witness, example, and service. Use this form to nominate a person you feel deserves to be recognized by our group and church as the "Outstanding Wesleyan Man of the Year." Return it to a local Wesleyan Men officer.

1. Describe the personal Christian character and witness of the nominee that you believe qualifies him for this award (for example, evidences of compassion for the lost and needy, high moral character, integrity, demonstration of Christ-like attitudes and a godly spirit).

2. Describe the nominee's involvement in our local Wesleyan Men chapter (leadership positions held, faithfulness to chapter meetings, mission project or work team participation, special ministry involvement).

3. Describe the nominee's involvement in other local church, district or denominational ministries (areas of service, offices held, participation on church boards or committees, special projects, distinguished service).

4. Describe the nominee's community service (such as membership in civic organizations, political activities, involvement in community needs, charitable or volunteer work, military service).

5. Other comments or characteristics about the nominee regarding his qualification for the "Outstanding Wesleyan Man of the Year' award.
