Many churches will use the traditional forty days of Lent, beginning Ash Wednesday going through Holy Saturday (excluding Sundays, since ancient church practice was not to fast on the Lord’s Day). Others will use these materials as a spiritual exercise for forty consecutive days prior to Easter. Some will use Forty Days as preparation helps for a church-wide Spiritual Emphasis Week, revival, or significant special event during the fall or some other time of year.
