Journaling Your Experiences: Evaluation

“Journaling” is like keeping a diary. Evaluating your experiences in writing in your own personal journal is a valuable exercise in the process of working through your spiritual gifts, passions, interests and mission statement. As you look back later on some of the things you write, you will see a thread that runs through all your entries. Something that stands out in one area of ministry may keep coming up in other areas. That can help you determine service and ministries that you want to pursue further.

Some of the questions you could ask yourself about daily experiences include these:

  • If I had the chance to do just one part of the worship service at my church, what would it be?
  • If I could make two improvements about the way things are done at my church, what would I change?
  • This is how I felt while I was doing ____________________________ (name the service or ministry) lately.
  • These are some of the things I definitely want to remember about this service opportunity.
  • I had these observations about the way I reacted to this service opportunity…
  • Something important God taught me today was…
  • Something I realized today for the first time about God's purpose for me was…
